What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a controlled burning of the skin, via an acid (such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic or tartaric), a fruit or vegetable enzyme or the combination of both in order to exfoliate the top layer(s) of the skin.

Peels are divided into levels according to the warmth it will create on the customer’s skin as well as the difference between a slight exfoliate versus a deep peel, in which one or more layers of the epidermis will “peel off”.

A level 1 peel is mild and will give a very slight exfoliation to the skin. Level 2 will give a stronger exfoliation. A level 3 creates more of a peel than an exfoliant; there is usually minimum or no down time Level 4 has the potential for more peel and can feel very warm on the skin. Level 5 is a deep peel usually performed at a doctor’s office or a medispa, not recommended as a first peel.

Pevonia Micro-Retinol Peel (level 3 to 4) $80.00
This peel combines glycolic and lactic acids with Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A) to help the skin's wrinkles, elasticity and hyperpigmentation. Best results if done once a week for 5 weeks. Customer cannot have any sun exposure for the rest of that day. I recommend preparing the skin for 2 weeks prior to the peel with the Micro-Retinol  at home products. The Micro-Retinol moisturizer has elastin and collagen    in addition to the retinyl palmitate.

Enzyme Peels (levels 2 or 3) $65.00
Different enzymes are available, such as: Raspberries or pineapple (bromelain).
Recommended to exfoliate, rejuvenate and strengthen the skin. Light to medium peels. May contain lactic acid to promote cell turnover, helps brighten discolorations and even skin tone. Pineapple (Bromelain) exfoliates and moisturizes the skin. Numerous antioxidants, such as Allantoin, Bilberry extract and Wild Yam extract which maintain the health of the moist tissue of the skin. This product may contain an Alpha Hydroxy Acid  (AHA) which will increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Sun block must be used daily and sun exposure limited 2 weeks after the treatment. Cannot be performed on customers using Retin-A or blood thinners.

Image Hyper-Pigmentation and Lightening Peel (level 3) $80.00
For sun damaged or pigmented skin due to hormones. Best results with a home regime of skin lightening products and/or 2% HQ bleaching agent. Daily use of sun block a must! Receive a free take home healing kit.

7  bi-weekly peels $500.00
For faster results, combine with a microdermabrasion treatment. $100.00

I
mage Salicylic, Lactic and Retional Resurfacing Peel (level 4/5) $80.00
One of the deepest peels available in a day spa. Not recommended as a first peel. Skin must be prepared by receiving a level 2 or 3 peel or a microdermabrasion treatment one or two weeks before to prepare skin for this deeper peel. Contains Salicylic acid, Lactic Acid and Retinol for cell turnover, softening and antioxidant properties.  Expect some down time, skin will look sun/wind burnt and will be flaking for about one week. Best results if a microdermabrasion treatment is performed 8 to 10 days later.

If purchased separately, prep-peel is $65, Image Salicylic, Lactic and Retinol peel is $80 and microdermabrasion is $70. If purchased as a package the 3 treatments are $200.  (This peel is performed in late Fall, Winter and early Spring only). Receive a free take home healing kit ($30 dollar value).

Sun block with Titanium Dioxide must be purchased at Skin Concepts or brought to the spa by the customer in order to receive a chemical peel.

No chemical peel can be performed on customers using Retin-A or Accutane. Must be off them for at least 6 months.
